„An Inconvenient Doom“ receives preparation funding

We are very proud to announce that the project was selected by the „Film & Media Foundation Northrhine-Westphalia“ (Film und Medien Stiftung NRW) for a preparation funding of 17.500 €.

The production wants to thank the jury for their support and their belief in the project. The funding will be use to travel to the US later this year to conduct the first round of interviews and prepare a trailer.

A great year ends in a successful pitching event

After spending 10 month with the brilliant creators of 14 other documentary projects in the Documentary Campus Masterschool – forging strategies, alliances and friendships – director Niki Drozdowski presented the project in front of an international audience of TV, streaming and cinema decision makers in Halle, Germany.

And while not everyone was on board with the dark topic (escpecially TV executives found the project to depressing for their audiences) the evening ended with an extensive round of one-on-ones with a lot of encouragement by theatrical distributors and sales agents.

It was always going to be an uphill battle to be the bringer of bad news about AI – but the support of a lot of decision makers and colleagues helped to push the project to a new level during the masterschool and beyond.

We’re proud to announce that „An Inconvenient Doom“ is now officially a part of Documentary Campus Masterschool 2024, an European long-running 10-month incubator program for the development of documentary projects. Thank you so much to the jury for putting their trust in us and the project.

Over the coming month the project will receive expert coaching and mentoring in areas like festival strategy, impact campaigning and audience design.

Project start for „An Inconvenient Doom“

Today we officially start the development of the feature-length documentary project „An Inconvenient Doom“ about the existential dangers of next-level AI. The preliminary research turned out way harder than expected because the topic is extremely technical and hard to understand. But nevertheless this is shaping up to be the most important issue of our time.

In May 2023 hundreds of top-tier AI scientists, professors and CEOs of the big AI companies warned about extinction-level dangers to the human species from advanced AI – but almost nobody took this warning seriously. The movie explains the extremely complicated existential threat from AI, tells the stories of the experts and activists with their emotional pleas to humanity and explores why journalists, politicians and society might not react in time to avoid catastrophe.
